今日は「新世代 至高のおりがみ」より、宮本遼さんの「シロサイ」をご紹介いたします。
Today I'll introduce "White Rhinoceros" designed by Haruka Hashimoto, in New Generation of ORIGAMI.
上級者向けの作品がズラリと並ぶ本書の中でも、★★★★★（レベル５）のシロサイ。
工程数195の、なかなかヘビーな作品です！
面が広くシンプルな見た目とは裏腹に、中身は結構いじくり回されています。
This model is written as "5 stars (level 5)", in the textbook that includes many other difficult models.
Although the appearance that has wide surface seems to be simple, the inner structure is amazingly complex.
素材は「彩雲紙 大理石」。
便箋などに使われる厚手の紙です。
さりげないマーブル柄が、ざらっとしたサイの身体に合うかと思って、選んでみました。
サイズは、四ツ切（54.3cm×39cm）を正方形にカットした39cm×39cm。
推奨が35cm以上だったので、ギリギリOKかな…
と、見切り発車で折り始めるのでした。
しかし、それが苦難の始まりなのでした。
Today's material is "Saiun (Marble)", that is often used for letter paper.
I chose this because the moderate marble pattern may fit with Rhinoceros skin.
Paper size is 39cm×39cm, that I cut 54.3cm×39cm rectangle into square.
Textbook recommended 35cm, so I thought it'll be Okey and started folding with overconfidence.
However, it was beginning of hardships...

さて、感想です。
一言でいうと…むずい。
作るのも、仕上げるのも大変でした！
Impressions.
In short, DIFFICULT!
It was hard not only to fold but also to shape it!
まず、サイズ。
推奨35cmで、39cmの厚紙を使うのは、ちょっと無理がありましたね…
だんだん、物理的に折れなくなっていきます。
パワープレイ（握力）で押し切りましたが、もっと大きさに余裕があれば良かったです。
でも、何とか破綻せず、それなりの形になったので満足しています。
First, paper size.
It was tough because I used 39cm thick paper, even though recommended size was 35cm.
Gradually it can't be folded physically.
I got over the processes with my grip strength, but I regret that I should have used larger paper.
However, I'm satisfied with the final shape without collapse.
身体のベースを作る工程26-50や、顔の細部を作り込む工程138-146など、所々でテキスト通りにはいかず、多くの妥協を残しました。
どうにもならない箇所は…ソレっぽく整形です！
Unfortunately I couldn't follow exact instructions and left some compromises. For example, step26-50 to make the body base, step138-146 to finalize facial details, etc.
Some parts which I couldn't make it well, but I managed to imitate the photos of textbook.

何とか最後まで進めたものの、全体の整形も予想以上に大変でした。
コッチの方が時間かかったんじゃないか…？
Although I processed all steps with difficulties, to shape the whole body was more hard.
It took more times to do it.
今回の仕上げは、「水」と「ノリ」の合わせ技です。
I used "water" and "glue" in combination.
折り紙には、紙に水をふくませ、繊維をほぐしながら折る「ウェットフォールディング」という技法があります。
形を決めてから乾燥させると、折り目や自然な曲線を長くキープできる、画期的な方法です。
There's "Wet folding", the technique to fold while loosening fibers by moistening paper.
This is a breakthrough method.
When you dry it after fixing its shape, creases and natural curves can be lasted for a long time.
今回は、完成後の整形時に、湿らせた指でモミモミする「なんちゃってウェットフォールディング」。
それでも、胴体の丸みや顔の膨らみなど、なかなか満足のいく曲線を出すことができました。
どうしても開いてしまう両耳や脚などは、ノリの出番。
お風呂前や就寝前に固定しておくと、結構いい感じに乾くんですよねぇ。
This time I imitated Wet folding, that I kneaded some parts with moistened fingers after completion.
Even with these method, I could make satisfactory shapes such as roundness of torso, face bulge etc.
Ears and legs etc are inevitably unfolded, so glue played an essential role.
Each part dries moderately while bathing or sleeping.
テキストの見本とは遠いクオリティですが、豪快なデザインと彩雲紙の質感が調和して、石像のように立派な佇まいになりました！
苦し紛れな感じは否めませんが、満足です＼(^o^)／
Although my work is far fron textbook's model, it finished pretty fine that exciting design & Saiun texture are in harmony, and like a stone statue.
I'm satisfied while it may be makeshift(^o^)

今回の素材「彩雲紙は」、今回の「大理石」以外にもいくつかバリエーションがあります。
「虹」「桃」「あじさい」です。

しかし残念なことに、彩雲紙は既に生産終了とのこと…
残りのストックは、大切に使いたいと思います。

However, unfortunately I heard that Saiun paper is already end of production...
My remaining stock must be used carefully.
You should get them without hesitation, when you find at paper shop!
とはいえ、あまり勿体ぶってもいけませんね。
良さそうな題材があったら、積極的に飛び込んでみようっと。

On the other hand, I think it's not good to hesitate to use them.
