After achieving the goal to be an Origami Master, one month has passed.
I'm relieved that I don't need to write research paper and prepare various documents anymore.
先月は80人規模の大きな講座をやり抜き、しばらくは案件も落ち着きそうです。
次は何をやろうかな…とぼんやり考えてえるうち、ふと「心機一転のなにか」を折りたくなりました。
Last month I held a large seminar that 80 people joined, after that I have few order recently.
I wonder what's next, I came up with making something fresh one.
で、選んだのが…
思い出の詰まった「バハムート」！
言わずと知れたファイナルファンタジーの召喚獣。これが不切正方形一枚で折れるなんて夢のような話です。
And I chose "Bahamut", the memorable model!
A famous summoned beast in FINAL FANTASY, it's wonderful that we can make from one square paper!
ちなみに掲載テキストでは「ディバインドラゴン」と表記されています。

折り紙業界では「キャラもの」を題材として取り扱う場合、正式名称を伏せる慣習があります。
著作権的にアレなんでしょうね…
Asides, in the textbook it is written "Divine Dragon".
Origami creators tend to be hidden the real name, when they adopt an existing character. I think because the copyright is strict.
素材は90cmクラフト紙。
CAFE RICCOの企画で使ったものが、まだまだ余っています。なにしろ、20mロールで買いましたから。
完成品はかなり大きくなりそうなので、置き場所を考えなくちゃいけませんね。
The material is 90cm craft paper.
There's enough surplus when I used at a exhibition. I bought 20m long!
The completed size will be huge so I have to make a storage space.
さて。
今回、完成品をバシッとお披露目したかったのですが、諸事情により途中で作業がストップしてしまいました。
しかし、ここで勿体ぶっても仕方ないので、途中までの姿をまるっと見せちゃいます。
工程192/275地点、顔＋胸部が何となく見えてきた段階までをご覧くださいませ。
By the way, I wanted to show a completed model, but due to certain circumstances, the process has stopped.
However it's boring to tantalize, I'll show you a halfway. Step192/275 that the head and chest are made roughly.

ということで、スタートです！
まず、仕込みが終わった時点の様相はこちら。
中央に走る蛇腹は、手足の指などの細かいパーツを折り出すための構造です。
Now, let's start.
First, this is a state when the all creases are prepared.
Pleats in the center are structure to make complex parts like fingers.
複雑系に蛇腹は不可欠ですが、仕込む場所が作品によって異なるのも面白いんですよね。
ちなみに勝田恭平さんの「グリフォン」では、正方形の外周４辺を蛇腹にします。

Pleats are essential for complex models, it's interesting that the arrangement varies by each model.
In case of "Griffin" designed by Kyohei Katsuta, they're located in the outer frame.
さて、話をバハムートに戻しましょう。
仕込んだ蛇腹は、川崎ローズの「ねじり折り」の要領でパタパタ畳んでいくことで、大量のカドを産出します。
この一つ一つが、足の指になっていくんですね〜。
巨大なクラフト紙はバサバサして折りづらいですが、そこは気合いで何とかします。
この段階は、それぞれの幅の誤差を微調整するチャンスなので、端と端をしっかり合わせてあげます。
In case of Bahamut, many pointed end are created by being folded the pleats like "Twisting" seen in Kawasaki rose.
Each part will be fingers.
Huge craft paper is hard to handle, I struggled.
Around here is an opportunity to adjust the misalignments in each width, so I fixed firmly.
仕込みを経て、ある程度畳んだ形がコチラ。イカみたいですね。
紙のカドにあたる蛇腹の端っこは、のちに大きく広がる一対の翼になります。
This is a state when I assembled roughly after making creases.
The end of pleats that locates in corner of the square will be wings.
工程89
出ました、〇〇分の１とかいうやつ！
皆さんは目分量で折ってますか？それとも寸法を測ってますか？
まさにぃは、結構キッチリ測ってます。
今回は全体が11.4cmと少々なので、1/5は2.28cm≒2.3cm。
最後に左右で同じ寸法になっているか、必ず確かめます。

When you encounter 1/n pattern, which do you fold by eyeballing or measuring?
I usually measure carefully.
This time the whole dimension is 11.4cm, so 1/5 is 2.28cm≒2.3cm.
Finally it must be checked to be symmetry.
工程129〜184では、頭部の大枠を作っていきます。
90cmクラフト紙でも、この細かさです！
何となく表情ができてきた所で、細部は終盤までお預け。
In step129-184, head will be made roughly.
It's so delicate even with 90cm craft paper!
When the most face parts are made, the rest will be processed later.
工程190
鎧のような胸部が完成します。かっこいいですね。
両脚がセクシーなのは置いといて、今後の進捗が楽しみです。

Chest like a armor was appeared. It's cool.
Although legs are quite sexy, I'm looking forward to shaping these parts.

しばらく作業がストップしていますが、完成後にドバッと情報を出すより、小出しにしていこうと思いまして。
作業途中のシーンって、我々からするといつもの光景ですが、折り紙をやらない方にとっては新鮮かと思います。
「本当に一枚からできてるんだ！」と驚かれることも多いです。
Now my work is suspended, but I thought it's better to show halfway faster than show the all after completing later.
The view in progress is routine for me, but fresh for non-origami player. They're often surprised "This is really made from one paper!".
