今日ご紹介するのは…
白い体に大きなくちばし。
かわいらしい姿が大人気の「文鳥」です！
Today I'll introduce is...
White body & big beak, "Java Sparrow" that is popular for its cuteness.
2009年の「折紙探偵団マガジン114号」で、宮本宙也さんが発表したモデル。
赤いくちばしや翼、尾羽、足の指までしっかり再現されています。
全体のフォルムも美しく、そのリアルさは、作った私でさえ「あ、鳥がいる」と思ってしまうほど。
This model was published by Chuya Miyamoto, in "Origami Tanteidan Magazine vol.114(2009)".
It has red beak, tail feather toes, and each of them is reproducted realistically.
The body line is also beautiful, it's so real that I may misunderstand as a real bird.
そうそう、鳥の脚って結構うしろにあるんですよね。分かってらっしゃる。
前側が重くなりそう…と思いきや、脚だけでしっかり自立しました。
素晴らしくバランスの取れたデザインです！
The creator has a deep knowledge because he designed legs relatively behind. I like it!
I was worried that the front becomes heavy, but it stood firmly with only its legs.
It's a wonderfully harmonious design!

「折紙探偵団マガジン」は、日本折紙学会が定期的に発行している会報のこと。
これは私が会員になる前のものだったので、バックナンバーを取り寄せました。
"Origami Tanteidan Magazine" is a subscription magazine published by Japan Origami Academic Society (JOAS).
Vol.114 was published before I joined JOAS, so I purchased it online.

文鳥の折り図を描いたのは、小松英夫さん。
工程数は131と長めですが、直感的に理解しやすく、驚くほどスムーズに進めることができました。
裏面の色を出すための、クルンクルンと紙をひっくり返す工程が楽しかったです。
目元の構造は、今井雄大さんの「ハリネズミ」の目や、勝田恭平さんの「ハムスター」の手と一緒なので、経験がある方はピンとくるはず。どちらも難しい作品ですが、折ったことのない方は、これを機に挑戦してみてはいかがでしょうか。
This model's diagram was drawn by Hideo Komatsu, the great Origamist.
It has 131 steps in total. Although you may feel pretty long, it can be processed amazingly smooth.
I enjoyed some scene that papers are turned over one after another.
Structures around eyes are the same as the eyes of "Hedgehog" (by Yudai Imai) and the hands of "Hamster" (by Kyohei Katsuta).

さて、制作レポートです。
まずは、トーヨーの35cm普通紙（ピンク）で試作することに。
全体的にかなり厚くなるのは明らかだったので、折り目が浮かないよう爪でゴリゴリやっちゃいました。
もちろん強度は落ちますが、終盤に厚みと格闘するよりはマシです。
それでも、背中や羽、脚などのパーツは、揉み込まないと折れないくらい厚くなってしまいました。これが普通紙の限界ですね。
Now, I'll show you some reports.
First, I tried with Toyo standard paper (35cm).
I was sure that the whole structure would be quite thick, so I pressed some thick creases with my nail, to prevent them from returning.
Of course the durability will decrease, it's better than fighting thickness later.
Even with these measures, some parts such as back, wings and legs became thick enough not to be fold unless I knead. I think this is the limit of standard paper.
一応完成はしましたが…
う〜ん、なんだか微妙な仕上がりです。
結構頑張って整形したんですけどね。
Although it was completed...subtle.
Even with this appearance, I did my best to shape it.
２回目は、ホイル紙の赤で再挑戦。
サイズは同じ35cmです。
シワが目立つのが難点ですが、やっぱりホイル紙の薄さは折りやすいですね！
細長い脚も、足指も、しっかり仕上げることができました。
紙の弾力がなく、曲げても戻らないので、整形のしやすさも最高です。
（おなかと目元の一部には、ノリを使いました。）
Next, I re-challenged with 35cm foil paper.
This material has a difficult point that wrinkles are often expressed on surface, but it's not an important matter here.
It's easy to fold due to its thinness.
I could fold elongated legs and toes satisfactory.
I love the ease of shaping that it has low elasticity and hard to be unfolded.
(I used glue on its stomach and around eyes.)
また、ホイル紙は裏面が透けないので、白色がはっきり出たのも嬉しかったです。
１回目は体までピンクになっちゃいましたが、今回は印象がまるで違いますね。
Also, foil papers don't have transparency, so it's nice that white is clearly visible without red being seen through.
The first challenge, body turned pink. But this time the impression was dramatically different!
本当はもう少しオレンジ寄りの色を選びたかったがのですが、あいにく良い紙がありませんでした。
でも、これはこれで、意外とアリな気がします。
Originally I wanted to use a orange-like color, but I didn't have it.
However, I'm satisfied with this result.

「普通紙で試作、ホイルで本番」というのは私がよくやるスタイルで、とても効率がいいと思っています。
皆さんも難しい作品に取り組む際には、一発目で成功させようと焦らず、じっくり取り組んでみてくださいね。
I often take a measure that "Practice with standard paper, then finish with foil". It's efficient.
When you address difficult models, why not address patiently, rather than making it perfect in the first challenge.
