純国産「小川和紙」でつくる極小佐藤ローズ／Sato rose with washi paper

今日のテーマは「和紙×佐藤ローズ」。 
折紙講師講習会でいただいた「小川和紙」と、ハイブリッドティーローズの融合です。

Today's topic is "Washi paper & Sato rose".

さらりとした質感と、無添加ならではの色味が印象的な天然素材。
実習で使い切ってしまうのかと思いきや、おみやげとして持ち帰れることに。
カバンにしまう前から「白いバラを折ろう！」と心に決めていました。

Additive-free material that has silky texture and natural color.
I thought we'll use up at the lesson, but we could take them all as gifts.
I decided to make white rose at that moment.

全てのパーツを同一色で揃えたのは初めてだったのですが…
石像のような硬質感とアイボリーの暖かみ、それに佐藤ローズの柔らかな曲線が、ほどよく調和してくれました。

This is the first time that I make all parts with the same color...
Hardness like stone statue and ivory warmth, and soft curves by Sato rose were moderately in harmony.

サイドからの一枚もお気に入り。
まっすぐ背筋を伸ばした細身のシルエットが、白い背景によく映えます。
ひんやり張り詰めた感じがたまりません。

I also like its side view.
Tall & slender silhouette suits the white background.
Icy tensioned atmosphere, it's cool!

台座に選んだのは、伊豆旅行の際に立ち寄った「黄金崎クリスタルパーク」のおみやげ。
ガラスの透明感が、白いバラとよく合います。
こういう無駄のないデザイン、意外と貴重なんですやよね。
大きさもピッタリだったので、衝動買いしてしまいました。

The vase I chose is the souvenir that I found at "Koganezaki crystal park" in Izu.
Coolness of glass suits white rose.
Such a simple design is hard to find and the size was perfect, so I bought on impulse!

それでは、制作レポです。
貰ったサイズが15cm×15cmなので、コレで全てのパーツを作らなければいけません。

Now, let's report.
There're only 15cm×15cm square papers, so I had to make all parts out of them.

ハイブリッドティーローズの推奨サイズは25cmですから、40%のサイズダウンとなります。
ビビっていても仕方ないので…強行突破です！

Originally Hybrid tea rose is made of 25cm, so it's 40% smaller.
Don't hesitate, just do it!

やっぱり細かくて大変でしたが、和紙特有の耐久性はさすがです。
爪楊枝やペン先などの小道具を、心置きなく使うことができました。
As expected it forced me hard precise work, durability unique to washi paper helped me.
I can use props such as nib or toothpick without hesitation.

あとは、いかに「５箇所均等」をキープできるか。これは私のウデの問題です。
事あるごとに手を止めて、微調整（という名のゴマカシ）が必要でした。

On the other hand, how I keep uniformity at five areas, it depends on my skill.
I had to stop the process and adjust frequently.

見る角度によって形が変わるので、完全均等にはなっていないものの…
完成後の整形を頑張ったら、何とか綺麗にまとまりました。

Flower shape changes depending on my viewing angle, so it couldn't be perfect...
After shaping, it became pretty good.

仕上がり時の直径は4cm弱。
いつもの25cmで作ると6.5cmになります。
もちろん理論値どおりなのですが、このギャップは数値以上に大きく感じます。

The completed size is 4cm or less in diameter.
If I make it with 25cm, it'll become 6.5cm.
Of course it's according to the theory, but I feel the difference more than numerical value.

とはいえ、今回のように薄い素材であれば、これくらいのサイズがちょうどいいでしょう。
佐藤ローズは厚めの紙で作らないと、ペラペラして安っぽく見えてしまいます。
紙を小さくすれば相対的に厚みが増すので、違和感なく仕上がるわけです。

Although, such a thin material should be applied small size like today's case.
Sato rose tends to be cheap unless made of thick paper.
If the paper is smaller, thickness increases relatively. So we can complete naturally.

いや、分かってるんだけどさ。
分かってるんだけどね。

Difficult!!!

ガクと葉のサイズは、花に対して3/5の比率、つまり9cmです。
これはまぁ、何とかなります。

Caryx & leaves are made of 9cm paper, at a rate of three-fifth of flower.
These are not so difficult.

今回は葉を５枚そろえて、より本物のバラらしく仕上げました。
前回までは３枚しか作っていなかったのですが、５枚あった方が本来の構造に近づきます。

Today I made five leaves so that it be real rose.
Since last time I've made only three leaves, but it's closer to the real to make five.

ワイヤーは、セリアで見つけた茶系のものを採用。
緑色でも良かったのですが、和紙の色がアイボリーを帯びた白色なので、同系色で合わせると統一感が出ます。

I adapted brown wire which is sold at Seria store.
The green one is also fine but it's better to use brown because the paper is white with ivory.

ワイヤーの繋ぎ方は前回同様。
ノリを使わず巻き付けて、テープで被覆しないまま露出させています。

Wrap the roots of the leaves with wire firmly without glue, and expose the wires without tape.

初めての素材に、初めてサイズ。
新しい挑戦が詰まった「和紙のバラ」、大いに楽しませていただきました。
New material, new size.
I enjoyed Washi-rose, with various fresh challenges.

定期講座の皆さんはどんどんレベルアップしていくし、SNSを覗くと毎日のように新作が誕生しています。
芯が変わらないのは大切ですが、同じ事ばかりやっていても、成長を感じる喜びは味わえませんね。
熟成と挑戦、どちらも楽しみたいものです。

These days I feel my class members have improved their skill, and social media shows me amazing new works everytime.
It's important to keep a belief, on the other hand, I won't be able to get a joy of improvement if I repeat making the same works.
I'll enjoy both practice & challenge.
