まさかのスペイン語！？ メキシコ人折り紙作家 が生んだ「ウミウシ」／Sea slug by Mexican creator

前回に引き続き、「第21回折紙探偵団コンベンション折り図集Vol.21」の作品をお届けいたします。

Continuing from the previous article, I'll show you a work in "The 21st ORIGAMI TANTEIDAN CONVENTION".

今日ご紹介するのは「ウミウシ」です！
マニアックですね〜。
こんなモノまでデザインする人がいるなんて、折り紙の懐の深さを感じます。

Today I'll introduce "Sea slug".
How unique!!
What a deep Origami world is that there's such a design.

考案者は、メキシコのエリック・ジャクシエル・リーバス・ザルコさん。 

This model was designed by Eric Jacksiel Rivas Zarco, in Mexico.

折り図はなんと、スペイン語です！
前回の「飛ぶカブトムシ」は英語でしたが…さすがにスペ語は初体験です。
果たして、無事に完成できるのでしょうか！？

Amazingly, the diagram is written in Spanish!
"Flying Kabutomushi (Beetle)" I posted last time, was written in English, but I've never experienced Spanish.
Can I successfully complete it!?

さて、さっそく始めましょう。

えーと、まず…

Now, let's begin.

Hmm, first of all...

1. Plegar y desplegar en ángulo bisector. 

読めねぇ！！
Can't read!!

2. Plegar en valle los bordes llevandolos al medio.

読めねぇ！！！！
Can't read!!!!

でも、大丈夫！
こんな時の強〜い味方が「折り紙の共通ルール」です。
山折り・谷折りのラインや矢印の形、記号や順序の付け方などは、ほとんどのテキストで統一されています。

But it's Okay!
In such a case, ORIGAMI common rules strongly help me.
How to indicate Mountain fold & Valley fold, the shape of the arrow, any symbols , and how to describe the procedure, are unified in most textbooks.

それは音楽でいう「譜面」のようなもの。
言葉が分からなくても、ルールに従って進めていけばOKです。

かつて先人たちが「共通言語」を整備してくれたおかげで、こうして私たちが世界中の作品を楽しむことができるんですね。

They're like musical scores.
It's Okay if you proceed according the rules, even if you can't understand the language.
Thanks to our great ancestors who developed these common languages, we can enjoy any Origami works all over the world, in this way.

ちなみにGoogle先生によると、さっきの文章は、
1.  二等分線の角度で折り畳んで展開します。
2. それらを中央に導く谷の端を折ります。

By the way, according to Google Translation, the Spanish sentences I mentioned above, turned out to be as follows.
"1. Fold and unfold at a bisector angle."

"2. Fold the edges in a valley leading them to the middle."

う〜ん、なんか微妙に違うような気がします。
でも分かるような、分からないような…

Hmm, I feel something is wrong.
Maybe I can understand them, but I also feel that I can't...

❷シンプルでも油断は禁物／Careless mistake

ありがたい「共通ルール」に基づいて、サクサクと進めていきます。
書籍自体がマニアックとはいえ、この作品は前回のカブトムシほどの残酷さはありません。

I proceeded diagrams smoothly according to the thankful common rules.
Although this textbook itself is unique, this model isn't so harsh, compared to the previous Beetle.

だって、2ページ・38工程しかないんだもん！
「飛ぶカブトムシ」は20ページ・343工程。10倍です。10倍ですよ奥様。

Because it have only 38 steps in 2 pages!
On the other hand, Beetle has 343 steps in 20 pages.
What? 10 times!? OMG!!!

紙のサイズも15cm×15cm、つまり普通の教育折り紙と同じ大きさでイケました。
（推奨サイズは18cm×18cmでしたが、まぁ大丈夫でした。）
ちなみにカブトムシは53cm×53cm。何このギャップ。

I could make using 15cm×15cm paper, that is nomal size.
(Textbook recommends 18cm×18cm, but it's almost Okay.)

でも、油断はいけませんね。

楽勝！と思っていたら、工程26のClosed sinkでビリッとやってしまいました。
（幸い、おしりの内側だったので上手く隠せました。）
簡単・難しいに関わらず、どんな作品に対しても常に丁寧・謙虚でいたいものです。

However, I should have been careful.
When I thought it was easy, the paper was torn at closed sink in step 26.
(Fortunately the broken part was inside the hip, I could hide it well.)
I should be polite & humble for any models, regardless of difficulty.

❸ウミウシのはなし／About Sea slugs

ウミウシは「海の宝石」とも呼ばれ、世界中で様々な種類が知られています。
そのカラフルで美しい姿は、写真集ばかりかキャラクターグッズまで作られる程の人気ぶりです。

Sea slug is often called "Sea jewel", and known various species all over the world .

The colorful & beautiful appearance is so popular that their photo books or figures are even on sale.

今回の作品は「Hypselodoris apolegma」、つまり「シンデレラウミウシ」という種をベースにデザインされているものです。

Today's model is desined as "Hypselodoris apolegma = Royal hypselodoris".

ウミウシは軟体動物、つまり貝の仲間です。
貝殻は進化の過程でなくなりましたが、小さな名残が残っている種類もいます。

Sea slug is a mollusca, same as shellfish.
The shell has degenerated in the process of evolution, but some species have traces of them.

ちなみにウミウシの眼は、頭の突起の根本あたりにちょこんと存在しています。もしくは、目を持たない種もあるそうです。
てっきりカタツムリのように、頭の突起が眼そのものかと思っていました。

Sea slug eyes are extremely small and at the base of the protrusions on his head.
They're some species who have no eyes.
I was misunderstanding that eyes are at the top of the protrusions like a snail.

ウミウシは、日本にも普通にいます。
磯を探し回ると、たま〜に岩の間に紛れていたりします。
私は高校生の頃に生物部に入っていたのですが、フィールドワークでメリベウミウシを見つけた時は大いに盛り上がりました。
懐かしい素敵な思い出です。

Sea slug also live Japan.
If you search for the shore carefully, they may be lurking in a puddle between the rocks.
I belonged to Biology club when I was in high school.
During fieldwork, when we found a Melibe (a kind of Sea slug), we were very exited!

It's my nostalgic & wonderful memory.

折り図という「共通言語」さえ知っていれば、書く人・見る人どちらも、完全に同じビジョンを共有することができます。

Once you learn diagram = Origami common language, content can be shared exactly between creators and players.

YouTubeの動画も素晴らしいですが、見たいところが手で隠れたり、光の加減でラインが見えなかったり、思うように折れない事もあるんですよね。
（それでも、様々な工夫を凝らしてそれらを克服するクリエイターの方々に、感服するばかりです。）

I think YouTube is also suitable for enjoying Origami, but sometimes I can't proceed as I expect.
The parts that I want to check may be  hidden by creator's hand, or the creases may become invisible due to the influence of direction or intensity of light.
(That aside, I have a great respect for video creators who overcome those problems with various ingenuity!)

「もっと上手くなりたい」「色々な作品を折ってみたい」という方は、テキストを買って、折り図のルールを確認すると良いですよ。
そこは、壮大な世界への入口です！

シュウキ・カトウ氏の「飛ぶカブトムシ」、挫折を経て生還（？）を果たす／"Flying Kabutomushi (Beetle)" designed by Shuki Kato

お久しぶりです！
おうち時間、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。
私はまるまる一週間かけて、シュウキ・カトウさんの「飛ぶカブトムシ」を作っていました。

I had been making "Flying Kabutomushi (Beetle)" designed by Shuki Kato for a week.

テキストは「第21回折紙探偵団コンベンション折り図集Vol.21（2015年）」。

マニアックな作品ばかり載っている専門書なのですが、その中でもコレは特に異彩を放っていました。
工程数は343。
うげぇ、神谷さんのカマキリより多いじゃないか…

The textbook is "The 21st ORIGAMI TANTEIDAN CONVENTION(2015)".

This is a technical book that has a lot of unique works, but this Beetle stands out.
It has 343 steps, there're more steps than "Praying Mantis" designed by Satoshi Kamiya.

で、結論。
ムズ過ぎる。
まだまだ私は、力不足のようです…

Let me conclude.
It was really difficult for me!!!!!!

❶初挑戦：あえなく散る／Defeat

❷再挑戦：あえなく妥協／Comprise

❸仕上げ：これで勘弁してやるッ！／Forgiveness

❶初挑戦：あえなく散る／Defeat

「展開図から瞬時に構造が分かる民族」に生まれたかったのですが、どうやら私は普通の人間だったようです。

I wanted to be born a people who can instantly understand the whole structure from the crease pattern, but apparently I'm an ordinary human.

鬼のような仕込みのあとに待っているのは、無限沈め折り地獄。
Open sink & out, Spread sink, Unsink, Collapse...
（※折り図は全て英語です。）
これらは凡人の私にとって、
「どこのパーツになるかも分からないトゲトゲを、ひたすら量産する作業」となります。

Harsh preparation of creases, then I faced endless Open sink & out, Spread sink, Unsink, Collapse...
These processes are "Endless hard work generating the protrusions, which I don't know what part it will be" for me.

ＭＰを容赦なく削られ、ヘトヘトになったところで、今度は紙が限界を迎えます。

When my mind was exhausted by that, next time, the paper exhausted!

あっちでビリッ
こっちでビリッ

He is being torn here & there.

片っ端から裂けていくホイル紙。
その様、塞いでも塞いでも浸水していく沈没船のごとし。

My foil paper was broken one after another.
It was like a sunken ship...

結局、工程188でギブアップ。
畳み方を間違えて、まとめきれずに破綻しました。
（工程183で、中心部まで段折りしたまま進めてしまいました。）

After all, I gave up at step 188.
I made a mistake in folding and couldn't converge them, completely failed.

さすがに一発でキマるとは思いませんでしたが、いざ本当に失敗すると、悲しくなるものです。

I didn't expect to succeed in the first challenge from the beginning, but I still felt sad...

❷再挑戦：あえなく妥協／Comprise

めげずに、次弾装填です！
スクラップと化した銀色の塊を横目に、金色の53cmホイル紙を引っ張り出します。
（でかくて薄い紙がホイルしかない）

I will not discouraged and try again!
I left the silver junk, and restarted with 53cm gold foil paper.
(The only large & thin paper I have.)

一度やった事のある工程は、幾分ラクです。
先が読めるので力の抜きどころが分かり、不必要に紙を酷使することがありません。

The process once I experienced makes me feel a little easier.
The next step is predictable and I can see how to adjust the folding strength.
So it's unnecessary to overuse the paper.

よーし、一気に完成まで駆け抜けてやる！
と、思ったら…
後半にもヤバいシーンが、出るわ出るわ。

Alright, I can reach the goal soon!
I thought that, but wrong.

特に工程211は、完全にお手上げでした。
内部構造が全くわからん。

Especially step 211 was completely incomprehensible.
I couldn't understand the internal structure.

トドメは、工程234。
内側のカドを引っ張り出してツノを作るところです。
地味ながら非常にえげつない（というか無理）。
どこから指を入れろと…？
（むろん、真っ二つに裂けました）

Step 234 attacked me as a final blow.
It's a process pulling out the inner corner to generate the horns.
Not flashy but too harsh. (impossible!)
I couldn't find the best way to insert my finger or thin sticks.
(Needless to say, it was torn in two.)

妥協とごまかしを重ねるうちに、いつしかゴールが、
「折り図どおりに完成させる」から
「カブトムシっぽく仕上がればOK」
という水準まで格下げされていきました。
何とも情けない展開です。

After a number of compromise & deception, the goal had changed
"Make exactly according to the diagram."
↓
"It's OK if it becomes an object like a beetle!"

❸仕上げ：これで勘弁してやるッ！／Forgiveness

無数の裂け目と穴ボコを乗り越えて、ようやく完成（？）までたどり着きました。
もはや「不切正方形一枚折り」とは呼べません。切れてるもん。

Through countless crevices & holes, I finally completed it.
It can no longer be said "made from an uncut square paper" because it has many serious cracks.

破れたカドをねじったり、内側に隠したりして調整した結果、何とかカブトムシとして耐えうる形になりホッとしています。

I adjusted broken tips by twisting or hiding inside. I was relieved that it had become an appearance which can be regarded as a beetle.

大きく白い後翅や、前脚のトゲなどは、まぁまぁ満足のいくクオリティになったかと。
眼は、左だけ辛うじて広がりました。右はダメです。つまり隻眼です。アーロンです。
体を覆う前翅（翅鞘）は、工程を完全無視してます。虫だけに。でもツルツルして甲虫っぽいからOK。

Big white hindwings, front-legs are not bad, satisfactory quality for me.
I managed to reproduce the left eye, but not the right eye.
In elytrons (front wings), I unfortunately ignored the diagram. However, it's OK because they have smooth luster like a beetle.

全体的にキズだらけで、肥満気味な感じはしますが…

悔しながら、私の実力ではコレが限界でした。

He is full of scratches overall, and a little obese than sample.
I regret to say that, this is the limit of my skill.

普通の作品には万能のホイル紙ですが、ここまで複雑になると素材の限界も感じます。
薄くて丈夫な特殊紙なら、もう少しマシな感じに仕上がるのでしょうか。

Foil paper can be versatile for most nomal works. But the material can't withstand such a complicated one.
Thin & durable paper may be better.

でも結局は、私のスキル次第ですね。
折り紙の世界は、まだまだ未知の領域にあふれています。

After all, it depends on my own technique.
ORIGAMI world is still full of unexplored frontiers!

いや、心を折るもの。
シュウキ・カトウさんの「飛ぶカブトムシ」でございました。

No, it's something to fold my heart messed up.

複雑系に挑戦したのは久しぶりですが、たまにはこうした負荷をかけないと、天狗になってしまうような気がします。
（いや、でもさすがにもうお腹いっぱい）

I had not played super complex work in a while.
If I don't put a load on myself in a while, I may be conceited.
(But I'm enough now!)

折紙先生の端くれとして思うのは、できない事にフタをして威張るより、できない事も隠さず悩み、みんなと成長を分かち合いたいということ。

つまり、もっと上手くなりたい。

I want to exposing it without shame and share difficulties with everyone, rather than being arrogant while hiding the lack of skills. I think so as one of the ORIGAMI teachers.
In other words, I want to be better.

これからも成功体験だけでなく、失敗もどんどんシェアしていきます。

定期講座のメンバー・はぁちゃんママより、節分にちなんだ作品が送られてきました！

Ha-chan's mom, who is my regular Origami class member send me some nice photos!

節分にちなんだ「仲良しおにっこたち」。
鬼は外…と言って追い出すのが申し訳ないくらい、チャーミングな鬼さんですね。
カラフルな鬼のパンツも素敵です。

Works associated with "Setsubun".
"Setsubun" is a traditional Japanese event that brings happiness to each home by hitting beans against evil demons and chasing them away.
Their colorful pants are also good.

出典は「飾る・使う・贈る カミキィの季節のおりがみ」。
折り紙作家・カミキィさんのデビュー作です。

The source of these works is the first textbook, that is published by "kamikey".

また、続けて３種類のバリエーションも見せてくれました。

My regular Origami classes that I always hold twice a month are closed because of COVID-19.
Children and the elderly also come to my class, so I decided to put safety first.

この素敵な作品を紹介してくれたのは、折紙作家のTatsumiさん。
「2019年折り紙探偵団コンベンション」の会場で教わり、ご本人が折った現物までいただきました。
（今でも大切にとってあります。）
Tatsumi, the origami creator designed this NICE model.
He taught me this at The 21st Origami Tanteidan Convention 2019, and I even got an actual work that he made.
(I still chellish it!)

オリジナルは、「デジタル数字(7SEG)」というモデルで、すでに一般公開されています。
こちらは、接着なしでパーツが繋がる構造です。

The original of this model is "Digital numbers(7SEG)" and it's already published online. 

今回私が紹介したのは、「7SEG」のＡパーツを２つ重ねたアレンジ版です。
ノリ付けする必要はありますが、こちらの方がより簡単かと思います。
慣れてきたら、ぜひ「7SEG」にもチャレンジしてみてくださいね！
Today, I introduced a modified version that is made of two A part of "7SEG".
It needs glue, but easier.
I hope you to challenge "7SEG" when you get used to it.

これだけシンプルな構造なら、すでに前例があるだろう…
そう考えて、Tatsumiさんは過去作品をお調べになったそうですが、同じ構造のものは見当たらなかったとのことです。
これはもう、「Tatsumiオリジナル」と言い張っていいのではないでしょうか。
With such a simple structure, precedent may already exist...
He thought so, he carefully searched past cases. However, there was no same structure as his work.
Therefore, I think he deserves to state that it's his original.

折り紙は長い何月をかけて、本当にたくさんの作品が発表されてきました。
現代になっても、今回のようにシンプルで美しい作品が新しく生まれるなんて、本当に奥が深い世界ですね。

オールシーズン使える「編み込み風リース」／"Wreath" all seasons available

明けましておめでとうございます。
2021年最初にご紹介する作品は、16枚組みの「編み込み風リース」です。

Happy new year!
The first works of 2021 that I introduce is "Wreath" made of 16 square papers.
It is assembled the parts like knitting.

本来はクリスマスリースなのですが、色の組み合わせ次第で雰囲気がガラッと変わります。
今回は、３パターンを作ってみました。

Originally this model was created as a christmas wreath, but it changes to various appearances depending on color combination.
This time, I tried three patterns below.

■白8・赤4・金4で「しめ飾り」

■"Shimekazari" made of 8 white, 4 red, 4 gold
※A traditional Japanese sacred rope which is displayed at the home entrance on new year's day

■セリアの冬柄で「雪国」

■"Snow world" made of winter color that I got Seria store

■ダイソーの和柄で「春色」

それぞれ、１月・２月・３月のイメージです。

■"Spring harmony" made of Sakura pattern that I got Daiso store
They represent January, February, and March, respectively.

一色でシンプルにまとめたり、ホイルを使って華やかに決めたりしても良いかと思います。

皆さんもぜひ、色々なアイディアを試してみてください。

You can also choice a single color to make it simple and cohesive, or use foil paper to be gorgeous.
Let's try your ideas a lot!

さて、作品の解説です。
１つのパーツは、工程数が11と少ないので、２-３個作れば覚えられると思います。
（慣れると１個３分くらいです。）

立体的なシーンがあるので、小さなお子さんは少々手こずるかもしれませんが、そんな時は大人がお手伝いしてあげましょう。
コツさえ掴めれば、一人でポコポコ量産できるかと。

Now, I'll explain about this model.
There are only 11 steps in one part, so you can memorize the entire process if you make 2 or 3 parts.
(I take about 3 minutes to make one.)

They may be a bit difficult for beginners or kids as there're seveal 3D steps.

In that case, a skilled person may need to 
help them.

パーツ同士を重ね合わせて、先端の尖った部分を編むように組んでいくのですが、これがまた面白いんです。
ノリを使う必要がないのも、嬉しいポイントです。

After all parts are ready, overlay next to each other and assemble the pointed parts like knitting. It's pretty interesting.
It's also a notable point that we don't need glue to assemble.

構造があまり複雑でないので、慣れたらサイズを小さくしても大丈夫。
普通の折り紙なら、15cm→7.5cm→3.75cmくらいまでなら、楽しく作れるかと思います。

The structure isn't very complicated, so once you get used to it, you can reduce the paper size.
Using a nomal Origami material, you may enjoy about 15cm→7.5cm→3.75cm.

裏面の色は、外周の内側に出ます。

両面カラーで作っても、アクセントになって良いかもしれませんね。

The backside of the paper appears inside the outer circumference.
It may be nice if using double-sided color.

Ｔさんの、片手で作る佐藤ローズ。／"Simple rose" made with only one hand

定期講座レポ・第３弾。
今日ご紹介するのは、Ｔさんの「シンプルローズ」です。
The third report of my regular Origami class.
Today I introduce "Simple rose" made by T.
(Here I call him T because of his anonymity)

なんとこれ、ほぼ左手だけで作ったんです！
定年退職後に脳梗塞で倒れ、右半身が動かなくなってしまったＴさん。
今でも右手は「つかむ程度」しかできないらしいのですが…
片手とは思えないクオリティです。
こんな芸当、私には到底できません。

Surprisingly, he made this with just his left hand!
He had a stroke 、after job retirement. and was paralyzed his right side.
Even now he says that his right hand can only grab things, it's a wonderful quality that we can't image it was made with one hand.
I can never do such a performance.

また、この日はもう一つ、ステキな作品を見せてくれました。
折り鶴を44個並べた「菊の花」です。

羽を一つ一つカールさせて、やわらかな花びらが表現されています。

葉っぱと額縁も、いい感じに大輪を引き立たせていますね。
製作期間は1-2週間。さすがの根気です。
バラと並んで、こちらもメンバーの皆さんに大好評でした。

In addition, he showed us another works.
"Chrysanthemum" that is made of 44 paper cranes.

Each wing is curled one by one, which expresses soft petals.
Two leaves and frame also highlight the large flower nicely.
He made it over a week or two, I admire his patience.
Everyone in the class loved it just like Simple rose.

「手足のリハビリのつもりで…」と、私の講座にいらしたのは、2年半ほど前のこと。
はじめは簡単な作品から。
やがて布施知子さんの「くす玉系」にハマり、今やすっかり上級者になりました。
"I want to rehabilitate my limbs."
Saying so, he came my class about two and a harf years ago.
We started with beginner-friendly works.
Then he was addicted to "Kusudama (ornamental ball)" designed by Tomoko FUSE. And now, he became an advanced player.

通っているデイサービスでは、メンバーのみんなに折り紙を教えることもあるんだとか。
謙虚で温厚な、Ｔさんのお人柄もあるのでしょう。

He said that he often teaches Origami to members of day care facility.
I think his humility and gentleness may help that.

何回も何回も挑戦して、自分のペースで着実に作り上げていくＴさんのひたむきな姿勢は、他のメンバーの励みになっています。

もちろん、私も。

His sincere attitude of challenging again and again, making steadily with his own pace, always encourages other members.
Of course, so am I.

「みんなは両手が使えるから良いじゃないか」
なんて笑って言うもんだから、私たちも負けていられません。
いくつになっても、好奇心をもって挑戦を続けていきたいものですね。

He laughs and says so, we also have to do our best.

川崎ローズと柿星人。／KAWASAKI ROSE & Persimmon Alien

前回に続き、川崎ローズのおはなし。
ちなちゃんが「4連の川崎ローズ」を作っている間に、実は隣で普通の川崎ローズが作られていました。

Continuing from the previous article, I'll talk about "KAWASAKI ROSE".
While Chinatsu-chan was challenging "Four connected roses", a normal KAWASAKI ROSE was made at the same time.

作ってくれたのは、みはるちゃん（小学2年生）。
黒地に桜模様が浮かんで、とってもオシャレですね。

Miharu-chan (2th grade of elementary school student) made it.
It's so fashionable with sakura pattern on a black background.

立体的なシーンは私が少しお手伝いしましたが、あとは自力でサクサク進めることができました。
私が初めて川崎ローズを折ったのは小5の頃。
彼女がこのまま折り紙を続けたら、私なんてすぐに追い越してしまうのでしょう。
（そしたら弟子入りしようっと。）

I supported her a little in the three-dimensional step, but she finished it almost herself.

I've made KAWASAKI ROSE when I was 5th grade of elementary school student.
If she continues Origami, she will overtake me easily.
(If that happens, I'll apprentice her and be a disciple.)

この日、みはるちゃんは新しい作品も作ってくれました。
「柿星人」だそうです。

She maned it "Persimmon Alien".

ロケットに乗って飛んでいく姿を再現してくれました。
首は容易に取れて、おしりに付け替えることができるんだそう…

バラと一緒に、大切にカバンに入れて持ち帰っていました。
家族が増えてよかったね。

She happily took him home with her rose.

I'm glad he join her family.

みはるちゃんの独特のセンスは、いつもサークルのみんなを和ませてくれます。
